Why Public Healthcare Is Essential.

Access to healthcare is a fundamental human right. In the past, people often died of illnesses that today are easily treatable. Now that we have the means to cure many common conditions, whether it is a dental cavity or a prescription for antibiotics, it is a matter of social justice to ensure that everyone can access these treatments.

In wealthier countries, the state often funds healthcare through taxes, ensuring that those who can afford to pay more do, while those who have less do not have to pay at all. This idea is not limited to rich Western nations; it applies globally. Even in developing countries, organisations such as UNICEF and the UN should help ensure that healthcare is accessible.

As Western countries face economic challenges and people become less able to afford care, the role of the state becomes even more crucial. Ultimately, balancing the costs of treatment and diagnosis fairly ensures that everyone, regardless of income, can maintain their health.

Investing in public healthcare does not just promote fairness; it also makes economic sense. As life expectancy rises and retirement ages shift, having a healthier population means people can contribute to society for longer. In other words, a healthy society is not only more equitable, it is also stronger and more productive in the long term. By supporting public healthcare, we build a future where everyone has the opportunity to stay healthy and thrive.
